I used to call myself a historian until I read some books by some “historians” about some of my ancestors and kin which I knew damn well they were either lying their asses off on purpose or they did not have a clue of what really went down in history or why the people they pretended to be writing historical “accounts” of did what they did, or in some cases what they really did.

Now I describe myself as a connoisseur of history.

The”history” of North America from the time of the start of European immigration in the 1600s till now as written up in “official” US “history books” bares little resemblance to what actually went down.

US “history books” should be filed in Libraries under F for fiction.

During the revolution George Washington had a special detail of soldiers who were supposed to protect him at all cost as the brighter heads understood if Washington was killed the revolution was over.

They took British gold to assassinate Washington themselves, it was found out, one man was hanged as a warning, some more arrested but most allowed to slide.
There were American politicians involved also.
